GRATEFUL TO OUR ANONYMOUS DONOR

This year, we have been privileged to work with an Anonymous Donor who wanted us to “build the building” and “finish the project” – in what can only be described as a transformational change for the KoFAT Compassion project. 

 

With this generous gift, the ladies of KoFAT became the project managers of working with local suppliers and tradespeople to complete the wall around their property and install the metal gate for full security.

 

Work then began on a building that includes one large classroom-sized space, an office, a kitchen, and a bathroom.  The structure is mostly covered with tin, except over the kitchen/bathroom areas, where it features a concrete roof that holds the cisterns for water.  The gift of funds included the replacement and purchase of additional chairs, classroom supplies, kitchen equipment, and office furniture.

 

The truly TRANSFORMATIONAL piece, however, is solar panels that gather energy, batteries to store it, and lights that turn on.  And with their first computer and an internet link, we have connected the Compassion Project to the world.  They will be able to learn how to use computers, produce better documentation and records, connect to learning, and better prepare for the future.

 

The women have begun to expand their opportunities, encouraging us to support them in a “PIG PROJECT” that is part microfinance and truly a cultural connection to food and lifestyle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6btKtJbSrQ  See "Sponsor a Pig for a Family" for more info on the pig project and how you can get involved. 

 

Within the next month, the ladies hope to host a formal opening of the project with the Mayor of Thiotte and Father Chery of Sacre Couer. 

 

We are grateful to this generous donor and to the women of KoFAT (Altha, Immaculee, Enita, Madeline, and Olide) who have been incredible (conservative) stewards of this gift. During this year, they shepherded this project into a previously unimaginable space to create change for the children of KoFAT.  Together, we know that children are not just the future; they are the heartbeat of our present. And thus, the children’s laughter and learning fill this new space, their curiosity drives this innovation, and their dreams inspire us to build a better tomorrow.
