TUTORS

Tutors are critical to the children’s learning because of the educational system. The children must do a lot of repetitive recitative learning, and since most of the parents are illiterate, they are not able to help their children learn. The tutors collaborate with the teachers to ensure that the children are keeping up with their studies. Each child is involved in two tutoring sessions each week. The tutors prepare the children to start school and then support them in their success in school. In 2026, we anticipate having our first student graduate through our program.

COOKS

The cooks serve the children peanut butter sandwiches and a drink when they come for tutoring during the week: two times during the week. On Saturday the ladies prepare enough food to serve approximately 150 children a full meal. This level of food support is both a stimulus for the children to attend the program and has resulted in improved nutrition for each child.

FOOD

Food is not only served as meals, but during times of trouble, such as during Covid, or during hurricanes or during a traumatic event for a family, the ladies supply the children and their families with food staples. During Covid, this food support was conducted each week to each family.

ADMIN/
COMMUNICATION

There are five officers of the KoFAT Komite. They make home visits to all residences, interview new participants, track health, well-being, and success of the students. They also assure food supplies are available, complete the bookkeeping and planning, interact with works, manage the property, and are present at every gathering of the children. These five ladies, Altha, Madeline, Enita, Ummacule, and Olide always have their eyes on the children and have not only changed the world for each of the children, but are making their community a better place.
