The Land + Building

1.png

We started with a lot more enthusiasm than money, and so we first used land owned by the uncle of the KoFAT president.  Parents did the hard work of hauling rock, and a foundation was made, put up some poles, and used a tarp for a roof.

In a country of blazing sun, rain, and devastating hurricanes, the tarps got old and leaky. It was a bit of a shock to see how the kids had to huddle under the parts that didn’t leak to protect their books and food.

So, with a donation for the project, we upgraded to a tin roof.

But then they had a hurricane, with the solution being to replace the wooden poles with concrete poles, and reused the tin.

The concrete poles were better at holding up the roof!

Following a successful Micro Finance project, the women were able to make a sizeable downpayment on one acre+ of land.

Fruitful land is an understatement.

The US team helped them pay off the debt. So in 2024, the US team started raising money to build a wall (for safety and security) around their land.

With a gift from a generous donor, we were able to “GET IT DONE,” with a building that includes space, a kitchen, bathrooms, solar panels, electricity, and internet. Take a look at this video of their GRAND OPENING on January 10,  2026
